app feature overview
Research shows that “Distracted Driving”—driving while engaged in other activities—is the number one cause of road accidents today. Due to the ubiquity of smartphones, Distracted Driving is also on the rise, with users employing the likes of Facebook, Netflix, YouTube, and, for our purposes, Pandora on their phones while driving.
Distracted Driving is a safety concern that needs immediate addressing because it can lead to life-altering and, oftentimes, fatal accidents.
challenges

One look at the typical Pandora user journey and it's easy to see how bad distraction can
get; that's a lot of ways to distract your eyes and hands while driving!

solutions

Options that allow for safer driving practices like iOS CarPlay and Android Auto exist, but only on a small number of vehicles enabled with such features. Nevertheless, these features still require users to take their eyes off the road and hands off the steering wheel.

Technology is now available that allows people to use their voices to control their phones. We see this with mobile features like Siri on iOS and Google Assistant on Android. Why not apply this voice technology to Pandora and other music services to bring about safer driving conditions for all?

This was the aim of this project: design a hands-free and eyes-free feature to control Pandora's mobile app. By doing so, we create a much simpler and safer interactive experience.
